The Lewis seating orthosis
The Lewis sitting orthosis consists of a back support, which is being transformed into a sitting orthosis on site, and a dynamic tilting support seat on a mounting Multiframe. Both the back support and the dynamic tilting seat are available in several dimensioning.
The Lewis sitting orthosis is mounted on all kinds of wheelchairs by means of especially developed Lewis mounting kits. Besides in wheelchairs the orthosis can also be mounted in diverse sitting furniture, as a lift assist chair or a working chair.
In consultation with a medic of therapist more or less trunk stability is chosen. Posture angles are applied and further wheelchair settings are adjusted to this. In the back support a Stability Feedback indicates non-stop whether enough trunk stability is being provided. While the client is sitting against the not yet individually made back support, the trunk is supported in such a way, that with sufficient mobility it is stretched out.
After that the fit of the back support is individually adjusted to the client. Therefore the client has to be in the desired posture in the back support for a couple of minutes, often with some assistance.
During this process the back support takes the desired fit and the moulded parts will become hard.
The surface of the back support stays soft and is totally upholstered. After this process the sitting orthosis is immediately ready to use. The mounting in total costs about two hours. Depending on the client's desire the sitting orthosis can be permanent or dismountable.
