With a decubitus cushion from Lewis Seating Systems pressure ulcers can be prevented and maximum sitting quality is being delivered. What are pressure ulcers (decubitus)?
This is medical terminology for the presence of small wounds due to sitting of lying down over an extended period of time. Decubitus knows multiple forms and can be in different stages. A red skin on the surface often arises due to friction in the seat area. The origin of subcutaneous redness is often a pressure that is too high.
Our decubitus cushions offer a solution.
Most decubitus cushions do not solve the friction problem. The Lewis decubitus cushion takes care of this by offering a correct sitting posture in order that de user does not slide from the wheelchair any longer.
Most cushions for the prevention of pressure ulcers know a pressure distribution that is equally large everywhere. Often air, gel, water or a combination of these is being used as pressure distributing means. The Lewis decubitus cushion distributes the pressure from the coccyx (tailbone) and the ischial tuberosities to the upper leg in an ingenious way. The upper leg is better capable of taking this pressure. That's why the risk of pressure ulcers is reduced.
