Cushion for prevention of pressure ulcers

Using the special Lewis cushion for prevention of pressure ulcers an optimal sitting quality is being guaranteed and pressure ulcers are prevented.

What are pressure ulcers (decubitus)?
Sitting without movement over an extended period of time is a joint originator of pain in the seat area. A cushion for prevention of pressure ulcers can reduce this pain. When the pain can't be felt of the body can't shift its position, damage can be originated to the body tissues. The ischial tuberosities and the coccyx (tailbone) are sensitive for this. If there is no quick intervention small wounds can arise, also called decubitus.

Anti-decubitus sitting cushion

A cushion for prevention of pressure ulcers is trying to prevent pain and small wounds due to sitting. Most anti-decubitus cushions do this by applying equal pressure on the whole surface. If no special facilities are supplied while mounting in the wheelchair, a cushion for prevention of pressure ulcers can't solve the problem of friction in the seat area. Also on a anti-decubitus cushion the upper legs move forward slowly. That's the reason why friction on the skin arises and the user slides downwards.

Unique sitting cushions from Lewis Seating Systems

The Lewis sitting cushion is working differently than all other cushion for prevention of pressure ulcers available on the market. First of all correct posture angles are being adjusted. This solves the friction problem and a pressure distribution from the pelvis to the upper legs is being generated. In this way the ischial tuberosities and the coccyx (tailbone) are being unburdened, as a result of which problems as pressure ulcers will come into existence less quickly.
